Seeking Policy Change and Its Problems

Say you are traveling on the Titanic. You have multiple captains from every corner of the world. There are hundreds of them. They all have a say in where the ship heads and what direction is the best to hold course.
Let's say you see the iceberg well ahead of time. You know you have to get out of the way or at least make a good calculated decision.
The first thing that happens is you have to have a captains meeting. All 100 captains get together in a room. You have to find them on the ship. Some are even boozing it up with the passengers. Some have even been paid by the passengers to make sure that nothing happens to them and that the ship holds course no matter what.
So you assemble these "smart" and talented fellows. This takes time. By the time they are all in the same room the Titanic is almost at the iceberg. Then they start the process. They vote on turning right or left or continuing on the same course. We have mixed votes of course because of hidden agendas, difference of opinion, ego's, dislikes among the captains themselves and a host of other factors.
Of course the ship slams into the iceberg. Far worse than it did in reality. It hits it head on rolls to the side and slices open the chambers. All of them.
The ship then sinks so fast that no one can get off. No life boats can be launched and everyone dies. As the ship is heading down we still have no real decision coming from all the captains. They sit at the table blathering until they drown.
This is a somewhat ironic and idiotic scenario played out before you. However it is just a minor variation of what goes on in politics at a much larger and more inefficient scale.
You see there is a reason why politics attracts the worst kind of people. Nobody else with half a brain would get ulcers trying to get anything done. The slandering, the disfunctional decision making, the time delays, the pay offs and a host of other factors  that would drive a sane person mad.
We dislike many things about it. Most of all that nothing ever changes for the people.
We think these so called leaders incompetent and it may seem like they are. However go back to our original scenario and see how hand tied they really are. The bonus they get from doing this job is some fiscal security and some sort of reinforcement that indeed they are making change.
The least inefficient way of doing things is to have nine people make a decision and then a tenth to determine whether or not the nine are right or wrong and finalize the decision immediately like the Israelis do. The tenth person is the final judge. He either approves the decision or he does not.
No bribes, no nonsense, no wasting time. Just a quick decision based on facts and whether he believes the other nine have anything worthwhile to make a case. Pretty solid in my humble opinion. Survival is the key. Quick decisions are the goal. They have to be like this because their survival depends on it.
Break most political systems down to this and you remove all the crap. You get rid of the stagnation and you drain the swamp. No it won't be popular with everyone and that is just too bad. Things would then get done. Good people would then enter into the race for leadership and countries would be better off.
Often we wish that our leaders would make different decisions when they make them. However we don't know the consequences if they do in most of the cases. Like saying letting the markets enter into a deflationary spiral is good. No it isn't. Unless you lived through such a thing you might not have any clue how bad it could get. You might very well go from the frying pan and into the fire based only on what you thought would be a good thing.
Anyway think about the notes from above and simply go on making your own life as good as it can be. One day we will have such a system but that day is not any time soon so worrying about something that will not change will serve no purpose other than to detract from energy you could be using to do something positive. Cheers!
